Zoar Maifest

Zoar Maifest

2019 will be the 3rd year for Maifest, which occurs from 10am – 5pm on May 3rd.

Beers, Brats, and Bands! Celebrate the coming of spring with a traditional German festival! German food and drink, German bands, choirs, and dancing, games, make-and-take art projects and a Maypole.

The Tuscarawas County Art Guild will be set up throughout the village. Maifest is also the grand opening of the new art exhibit at the Bimeler House, “Sense of Zoar.” This unique exhibit pairs scents with paintings of various locations in Zoar to give viewers a better sense of life in 19th century Zoar Village.

The “Bimeler” was almost destroyed by floods in 2005, 2008 and 2011, and has painstakingly been brought back to life.

The entire building has been rehabilitated over the last few years, beginning with the lifting of the house in 2012 and laying of a new basement and foundation. The exterior brick, once painted white, was sandblasted to remove the color and repaired. A new period porch was added, and some of the original windows and shutters were cleaned and re-applied. It is truly a stately looking building at the corner of the historic Zoar Garden!

The Annual Plant Sale returns on May 11, 2019 during Maifest. Plants will be sold from 8am-4pm in the Zoar Garden. All plants are Proven Winners and include: Annuals, Perennials, Hanging Baskets, Vegetables, Shade Plants, and Shrubs. All proceeds benefit the Zoar Community Association in the preservation and operation of Historic Zoar Village and the Zoar Gardens.
